Journal Alerting Services / Personalized Updates From Your Librarian

Journal Alerting Services

As new issues of journals are published, journal alerting services will send their tables of contents via e-mail to you.  Some services cover a wide variety of titles, while some cover just journals from a particular publisher or subject collection of titles.

Many services will also permit you to save searches that will then be executed at future intervals automatically (usually every week).  Instructions can be found at each site listed below.  Note that in order to use these services, you will have to register first.  A couple of the major services include:

TDNet {main site} {tutorial}

TDNet is our library's journal management system, listing all titles we receive as print subscriptions, electronic subscriptions, or contained in our many full-text databases.  Alerts for tables of contents and saved searches will be matched against this list of titles that Trinity users have access to.

Ingenta (Reveal) {journals list} {online help}

The free service allows you to set up e-mailing for 5 journal titles, but our Trinity site license allows up to 50 titles and 25 saved searches.  Please  contact your library liaison to be added to premium service.  Limited to faculty only at this time.

EBSCOhost {view databases}

Trinity subscribes to two dozen or so databases through the EBSCOhost service, including the popular Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, GeoRef, MLA International Bibliography, and ATLA Religion Database. Many of the titles in this database have their full text online. To receive journal alerts for any titles in these databases, choose a database; click on the Publications button; find your journal title in the list and select it; then click on Journal Alert.

The following are other useful alerting services with more constrained lists of titles; if you have favorite journals that don't seem to be covered in these lists, you might try looking for the publisher's home page and checking to see if they offer these services.

American Chemical Society {register} {journals list}

Blackwell {register} {journals list}

BioOne {register & journals list}

Cambridge University Press {register &journals list}

Institute of Physics {register} {journals list}

Oxford University Press {register} {journals list}

Project Muse {register} {journals list}

Royal Society of Chemistry {register} {journals list}

ScienceDirect {register} {journals list}

Wiley InterScience {register} {journals list}

Personalized Updates From Your Librarian

It can be difficult to stay current on online resources; we seem to add new resources frequently, and database vendors often change software.  Your liaison librarian will be glad to provide either an individual or a departmental update for you at your convenience; please contact us for assistance!
