Create a Citation Using a "Machine" or "Generator"

A number of resources are available either for free or for a membership that will help you to create citations for your bibliography.

Tips for Selecting an Online Citation Generator

Online citations generators remove some of the effort involved in creating accurate citations.  However, citation generators are not always up-to-date with current style guide standards.

1.  You should "test" the generator before using it and compare the citation it provides to you with the guidelines available on the library's Citing Sources at the End of a Paper page.

2.  You should never have to pay for this type of service. Below you will find a number of links to free citation creation resources.

3.  Remember that human error is still a barrier to accuracy.  Be sure that you...

(a) select the correct citation style and use this style consistently when creating citations;
(b) select the correct type of item that you wish to cite;
(c) complete the citation creation forms as fully as possible; and
(d) when you copy the citation in your bibliography or works cited, be sure to organize your citations alphabetically.
