Locating Articles Cited in Databases

Sometimes you'll find the full text of an article directly linked from a database.  When that doesn't happen, try these other options for accessing the article.  Reference staff would be happy to help you also.

Quest
Is the journal available in the Coates Library?  Check Quest, the library's online catalog, to determine if the library owns the journal as well as the specific volume and issue where your article was published.  Be sure and write down the call number for the journal; that's the way it will be shelved.

Journals
Follow this quick link from the library's home page to see if your journal is accessible electronically through another database or the publisher.  Be aware that Online Coverage indicated as continuing to date (for example, one would interpret Journal of Vibration and Control   2/1995 -  /   as being available in full text from February 1995 through the present) is not always accurate.  Some publishers "embargo" their more current issues and don't release the full text to databases for time periods varying from several months to a year or more.

Interlibrary Loan
If the article is not available in the library or in full text electronically through another database, submit an Interlibrary Loan request, either online or in person at the Information Commons Help Desk.  Allow up to 7-10 days to receive a copy of the article.
