These links provide information, texts, and other resources related to the study of the French language, literatures, and culture. Language

Dictionnaire de L'Académie Française
Features a host of online texts related to the history of the French language, including links to other reliable sources on similar topics.
 
This "global dictionary" is designed to search over 250 online dictionaries and includes words and definitions in a variety of languages.
 
Fine organization and a comprehensive scope characterize this page of language resources and guidelines from First-Year French courses at the University of Texas.
 
Sponsored by the ARTFL project, this database conjugates a selected verb in six different tenses based on the infinitive form of the verb.
 

Literature

ABU: la Bibliotheque Universelle
This searchable database of literary texts in French can be be navigated through browsing and searching (by author, title, and word).

Athena
An online repository of more than two thousand literary and historic texts in the French language (also includes a selection of texts translated from the French).

Bribes: Petit Dictionnaire de Citations
Using a word or a name, surfers can search for quotations in French that correspond with their keyword. 

Cesar
"Here you will find details of the plays, people and performance spaces that graced the French theatre during the 17th and 18th centuries, from the dawn of the age of public playhouses to the French Revolution."

Fabula: la recherche en littérature
Produced by an association of researchers, the site offers research and writing related to the literary genre.  This growing collection of texts related to specific works of fiction as well as the theoretical underpinnings of the genre is a model for future electronic academic endeavors.

Poésie Française
Including more than 6000 poems in the French language, this site offers simple search functions and easy navigation.  In addition, the site offers links and a statistics page that calculates the most popular searches completed at the site.

Théâtrales
Collection of bibliographies, timelines, essays, plays and other information related to the history of theater in France.

Creating French Culture: Treasures from the Bibliotheque Nationale de France
"Creating French Culture traces the history of this relationship from Charlemagne (b. 742?-d. 814) to Charles de Gaulle (b. 1890-d. 1970), through the prism of more than 200 magnificent "treasures" on loan (to the U.S. Library of Congress) from the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris."

Sponsored by Howard University in Washington, D.C., this site is a surfer-friendly reference resource for all facets of French history and culture.

H-FRANCE: listserv for professional historians of French History
Online discussion and research forum devoted to the history and culture of the francophone world.  The site includes links to research resources, book reviews, conference announcements, calls for papers, and a wide variety of information of interest to its subscribers.

HAPAX: French Resources on the Web
Includes links to French newspapers, government agencies and other organizations, tourism information, and statistics.

La France en Amerique
