These are a few of the many starting points for mathematics information. Suggestions for additions to this list that might be useful for classes at Trinity are welcome and should be sent to Barbara MacAlpine, library liaison for mathematics.

Societies

American Mathematical Society

The American Mathematical Society is one of the largest professional mathematics organizations. This web site has information about the association, its programs and its publications. You can browse the tables of contents for AMS journals, look at the math classification system used by Mathematical Reviews, or look up an author listed in Mathematical Reviews. (Note that you can search Mathematical Reviews through the database MathSciNet.) There is also an excellent set of links to other mathematics web sites.

Mathematical Association of America

The Mathematical Association of America is devoted to the interests of collegiate mathematics. There are feature articles and columns about college math, information about upcoming meetings and student activities, as well as the table of contents from recent issue(s) of MAA's journal publications (American Mathematics Monthly, Mathematics Magazine, College Mathematics Journal, Math Horizons, FOCUS, and JOMA).

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics

SIAM promotes the applications of mathematics in science and technology. The web site provides information about the society and its publications as well as information for students considering a career in mathematics. Electronic access to the full text of the SIAM journals Trinity subscribes to are available from the Journals link of the library homepage.

Guide to Available Mathematical Software

This NIST [National Institute of Standards and Technology] guide provides "a cross-index and virtual repository of mathematical and statistical software components of use in computational science and engineering."

Math Archives

This is a searchable archive of math materials on the Internet that have been collected by the Math Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. You can locate information about public domain and shareware software, teaching materials, math contests, and links to other sites of interest to students and teachers of mathematics. Also available are the electronic proceedings of the CTM (Conference on the Teaching of Mathematics) and ICTCM (International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics), POPMathematics, and Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching).

Math Forum

From Drexel University comes a comprehensive source for math education assistance.  There are hands-on web learning tools, lesson plans, and pre-kindergarten through college level activities.  The Teacher2Teacher feature is useful for both parents and teachers who want to teach mathematical concepts.

Mathematical Fiction

Here's an unusual site that correlates math and literature. The creator, from the College of Charleston, has collected information about mathematical references in fiction, which can be searched or browsed by genre, topic, motif or medium. For personal use as a mathematician to assignments in a math class, this site offers numerous possibilities.       

StatLib

StatLib is "a system for distributing statistical software, datasets, and information by electronic mail, FTP and WWW" and is provided by the Carnegie Mellon University Statistics Department.
