Guide to Online Newspapers

The following list is a guide to online newspapers, including those with searchable archives. Most major newspapers now maintain a web presence of some kind. Many sites are full-text, though some only contain the current issue.

Searchable Newspaper Databases

Access World News Access to the full electronic editions of over 600 US and 500 international newspapers, including English translations of selected top stories from more than 1,000 sources.
  •  
Alternative Press Index Index to alternative, radical and left periodicals and newspapers. Includes 290+ periodicals, newspapers, and magazines, 1991-to present.
  •  
Google News Archive A 200-year index of news stories, with the ability to sort chronologically with the 'timeline' feature. Not all content is free--this will help you find citations from various sources on a particular event to then track down in the library.

Houston Chronicle All articles other than advertisements. 1985 to the present. Does not include today's paper.

InfoTrac Newspapers

Articles from Texas newspapers (Austin, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston), New York, Washington DC, and Knight/Ridder Tribune News Service, plus some international newspapers.

Lexis-Nexis Searchable full-text of more than 350 newspapers from the U.S. and around the world, many same day of publication, plus the most extensive archives available anywhere of Financial Times (dating back to 1982), The New York Times (dating back to 1980) and The Washington Post (dating back to 1977).

Citation only searchable database.

This database offers searchable index and full-text and full-image articles from the New York Times 1851 to 2001; the collection includes digital reproductions of every page from every issue in downloadable PDF files.

San Antonio Express News

All articles other than advertisements from our local newspaper, 1990 to the present. Does not include today's paper; for same day news see MySanAntonio.com.
