Use of Special Collections for Meetings The Special Collections room is a teaching and learning space. We encourage visitors and scholars to visit Special Collections when it is open for patron access in the afternoons. We also welcome use of the materials in Special Collections for course-based assignments and other research. During the construction of the new Northrup Hall in 2002-2004, Special Collections was used for a number of meetings and events, including Board of Trustees meetings. That was an exceptional time, and it called for exceptional use of the space. Since the opening of the new Northrup, the Special Collections room has been returned to its original purpose—a space for students and researchers to use rare and archival materials. To make its holdings available as much as possible, we will no longer allow day-long meetings to be booked into Special Collections during the academic year, unless the purpose of the meeting requires use of the materials in that space. Those requesting use of the space for shorter meetings will be asked to meet in the morning (when Special Collections is closed to patrons), rather than in the afternoon. Exceptions will be considered by the Special Collections coordinator in concert with the University Librarian or Assistant University Librarian. If you have questions, please contact
Janice Sabec, Special Collections coordinator, at x7355. |
