We asked Angel Ramirez, ILL Student Worker and Trinity University Senior, a few questions to get to know him better and to tell us a little about his take on using the library!
What is your major?
Business Analytics & Technology and International Business
What do you plan to do once you graduate from Trinity?
The next step in my career would involve working in the energy industry. In the past months I have been looking towards companies, specifically in the renewable and sustainable sector of the energy industry. Ultimately, having the opportunity to work for a multinational company that focuses on cleaning and preserving our environment, in a variety of ways, is something I see myself enjoying in the long run.
Where do you call home?
I was born in Colima, Mexico a small city on the west coast of Mexico, but raised in Houston, Texas for the majority of my childhood.
What’s your favorite part about working in the library?
Being a part of the Interlibrary loan department since my freshman year, I have enjoyed a multitude of things. Nonetheless, the best part for me would include learning the different research projects many of the professors here on campus are conducting through their periodical, journal, and stacks requests. Having the opportunity to see what other students and professors in other universities are studying and reading, exposes me to fields and genres I usually would not be exposed to, expanding my curiosity for things I never would have thought of as interesting.
What advice would you give to students about using the library?
Ask a librarian or library worker about the endless resources the library has to offer. Often times, many incoming students simply do not know the extent of the library resources because there are so many. There should be a great sense of relief within each student to know they can solve their academic troubles by simply asking for a little help when needed.
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I would absolutely love the ability to speak, read, and write every new language I encounter. Language is such a crucial aspect of all cultures, having the ability to fully understand that part of every culture would be unreal. There are so many different philosophies of life, having the opportunity to keep learning of those ways is something I find fascinating.
